Sunday 28th January – walk ***** Up the mountain at Morzine – sunny.

Good night in our room with the sloping roof and woke to wall to wall sunshine, the perfect mountain day:) Now we had a decision to make go skiing or walking. Seven of our party had bought a whole week ski pass at a great discounted price from the Rental Agent. Mick and Pauline, Martin and Marilyn, Hannah, Elaine and Emma were skiing. Sadly, Rob after having knee surgery last year was not skiing/boarding but looking after Arlo, while Mag and I were going to get passes on a daily basis as was Dan who hasn’t skied for 8 years! It was Jay’s first time in the mountains and she was looking forward to spending time with Arlo and going for some walks. We also had such a fantastic apartment with stunning views it was great just being there:) The others had not hired their skis yet and Dan was knackered from an early start to travelling yesterday so we decided to have a relaxing start before we packed a picnic and headed up in the cable car for a walk in the snow. We left the apartment at 11.40 and Rob, Arlo, Dan, Jay, Mag and myself stopped at a ski shop to buy Arlo some cool mirror shades before paying a 7.50 Euro ticket to the top. It was fairly busy at the top with restaurants, chairlifts and pistes leading off all over the mountain. We found a footpath to the left along the edge of the piste, across what is in the summer a golf course! It is an easy path and for the most part free from skiers. After half a mile we passed a restaurant full of people enjoying the sunshine and found a place at the back of the heli-pad for our picnic with fantastic views down into Morzine and across the valley to Avoriaz. We had great fun with Arlo in the snow and I think Jay enjoyed her first trip up a mountain too :) Hannah, Elaine, Maz and Emma made a brief visit before we headed back meeting several members of the party at the cable car restaurant for a drink. Then back to the apartment for Mag and I to take our turn at the catering (each couple taking a night) and prepare the evening meal, a well trusted favourite Tarteflette. Then Rob and Dan went to hire some skies while others went shopping, I then picked them up in the van with loads of bags of supplies. The meal was delicious and well received and we can’t wait to get up the mountain tomorrow, with skis this time. A lovely start to the week :)
